New licensing partner model combines medical independence with proven practice structures, digital infrastructure and specialized support for establishing a practice

Berlin, September 28, 2026 – Running your own practice and being an independent entrepreneur without having to start from scratch when it comes to setup, financing and organization: With a new licensing partner model, LillianCare and MLP aim to make it easier for physicians to establish their own primary care practices.

The model is aimed in particular at specialists in general medicine and internal medicine who would like to run their own practice but want an experienced partner at their side to help them navigate the financial and organizational challenges involved in establishing a practice.
Both companies contribute their respective expertise. LillianCare provides its proven practice concept, operational infrastructure and healthcare network. MLP complements this offering with its many years of expertise in advising medical professionals on practice establishment, financial planning and financing concepts.

Independent, but not alone

Under the licensing partner model, physicians remain medically and entrepreneurially independent and run their own practices. At the same time, they benefit from proven structures that LillianCare has already established in its partner practices.

These include support with location analysis and practice setup, the recruitment and onboarding of physician assistants and medical assistants, digital infrastructure, billing and administration, quality management and marketing. LillianCare also supports its partners with processes related to Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) accreditation and available funding opportunities. Partners can either establish a new practice or take over and modernize an existing one.

MLP already supports medical professionals through various stages of establishing their own practices. Its advisory services include profitability and financing planning, reviewing available funding opportunities, and matters relating to business and personal insurance and protection. For practice takeovers, MLP also offers its Praxenmarkt, a specialized marketplace for medical practices.

Daniel Hefel, Founder and CEO of LillianCare:

“Many physicians can very well imagine running their own practice. What often discourages them is not the medical responsibility, but everything else that comes with it. With our licensing partner model, we want to combine the freedom of having your own practice with structures that make the path to establishing one significantly easier. With MLP, we have a partner at our side that has many years of experience with the financial and business aspects of setting up a medical practice.”

Establishing practices requires new solutions

The need for action in outpatient healthcare is considerable. According to the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV), around 5,000 primary care physician positions across Germany are already vacant. At the same time, almost 40 percent of primary care physicians are aged 60 or older. Primary care in particular is therefore facing a major generational transition.

At the same time, bureaucracy is considered one of the main obstacles for physicians considering establishing their own practice. According to the KBV, 91% of physicians in private practice feel overburdened by administrative and bureaucratic tasks.

This is precisely where the collaboration between LillianCare and MLP comes in. Rather than supporting physicians only with individual steps involved in establishing a practice, the aim is to create a seamless pathway from the initial idea through to the ongoing operation of the practice.

Meinert Menzel, Head of MLP’s Medical Professionals Division:

“For many physicians, the prospect of running their own practice is professionally attractive, but financially demanding. This makes sound planning from the outset all the more important – from financing and funding opportunities to personal and business protection. Together with LillianCare, we are combining a structured practice establishment model with our specialized advisory expertise for medical professionals, providing additional guidance on the path to self-employment.”

From the initial idea to opening the practice

Joining the licensing partner model begins with a no-obligation consultation and an assessment of the physician’s personal goals and preferred region. This is followed by steps including location and profitability analyses, development of the practice concept, KV procedures, financing, practice setup and team recruitment.

Depending on the individual starting point, the process from the initial consultation to opening the practice is expected to take approximately six to nine months. After opening, licensing partners remain part of the LillianCare network and can continue to access ongoing support and additional services. The model focuses particularly on regions with a high need for primary care services.

“Our goal is not simply to open additional practices,” says Hefel. “We want to provide physicians with a realistic and attractive path to self-employment while at the same time helping to secure primary care over the long term in the places where it is needed.”
